For a direct-seeded crop, the planting record and the plant’s history start at the same moment — seed goes into the field, and that is the beginning of the record. A transplanted crop has already had a life before that point: sown into a tray, grown on under cover for weeks, sometimes treated, before it ever sees the field. That earlier phase is real history, and it is the phase most crop records simply skip.

The reason it gets skipped is structural, not careless. A field planting record is usually started at the transplant date, because that is when the plant enters the part of the operation everyone already tracks. The greenhouse phase happened somewhere else, kept by a different person or a different log, and by the time the tray reaches the field, nothing forces the two records to connect.

An interval applied in the greenhouse still governs the field.
